WHAT IS SOLOVE?
Solove is an AI-powered emotional companion app that helps users track their emotional wellbeing, habits, and medication over time. At the core of the app is a conversational daily check-in where users have a short, organic chat with an AI about how they're feeling. Over time, the AI will draw data and patterns about the user's emotions and behavior based off these conversations.
This is the brainchild of a software engineer friend of mine whose vision I am helping bring to life. What follows in an exploration of my design process in creating the branding and user experience for the app and website. This project is still under development!

THE PROBLEM
The field of mental health apps today has become widely homogenous, both in features and visuals. Solove aims to disrupt that by integrating AI to create something novel: at once more human and more technologically advanced than what is currently on the market.
In designing the app, I wanted to communicate Solove's confidence in its ability to use AI tools for social good, rather than shying away from expressing any techno optimism. The inspiration for my design started in a glance to the past. Remember when everything on the internet was designed to look like a physical replication of what the feature represented? Think the old Instagram logo, or the original Apple library app. I wanted to bring some of that tactility into the app interface, alongside a hint of sci-fi and Y2K futuristic aesthetics.
At the same time, the design feels fully rooted in a timeless and modern sensibility. The minimalism and subtlety of the app interface should appeal to the adult professional, who is tired of wellness apps and platforms being full of elementary colors and candied blobs. Most importantly, the app is designed to inspire calm and self awareness.

LOGO
I wanted the Solove logo to communicate harmony, simplicity, and connection. The final design is and O inside and S inside an O. This organic nesting of letters represents interconnection and layers of depth.

APP DESIGN
The app is centered around the daily check-in feature, which is used to collect data about the user's wellbeing over time. It is customizable to the habits and medication that the user wants to track. The emotional check-in feature allows for a typed or spoken response. Because the AI chatbot is designed to be interactive, this conversational feature is at the core of what sets the app apart.
The 'Stats' page, where users can view information and data about themselves, is also still under construction. I'm working on some informational design features relating to how the data should be displayed, as well as possible reward mechanisms for consistent daily check-ins.

WEB DESIGN
I wanted to create a website design that leaves a lasting impression and suprises. Since the website is currently just a launch page with information about a future app, I allowed more artistic liberties than I would for a website with a more functional, and less informational, use case.

Next steps: What comes next in this project are further rounds of feedback and ideation with the developer to ensure that designs are feasible to implement, and that the designs optimally represent the features of the app. The exact features of the app are still being worked out; this will likely result in adjustments to website design and copy as well as app design.
